What is PBL?Traditionally, students learn by listening
to lectures and reading, and are assessed on their ability to recall and
communicate what they have learned. With Problem-Based Learning (PBL), students
are assessed on their ability to go through a problem solving process. PBL
opens students to fellow classmates and forces them to get together to solve a
problem.
Parramatta Marist was the first school in Australia to get involved with this project. Now many more schools are starting to adapt the idea of PBL learning. this form of learning is proving really effective towards the learning of students.
Currently at Marist PBL plays a huge part in subjects like Cath Tech and Social Studies.

ORIGINS OF PBL
PBL (Project based learning) is a large characteristic of the new tech network in America. Brother Patrick Howlett, the currant principal, Was on a business trip in California. Upon arrival he visited the new tech college, Brother Patrick observed the pupils participating in PBL learning. When he returned to Australia, Brother Patrick
Implemented early PBL learning into Year 9. After a few weeks of trial, he made the change permanent. In early 2013 Parramatta Marist became one of the first new tech schools in Australia. This means the students have access to the network website echo.
Echo is a workstation. On this website students can ask questions, retrieve assignments and homework and upload their finished products for marking.
